SHEIKH HASINA, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, said that a global order based on peaceful coexistence, social justice and freedom from poverty, hunger, exploitation and justice continued to be her country’s guiding vision in its national development and its engagement with the world. She expressed her Government’s full solidarity with the Palestinian people. Bangladesh had so far contributed 128,133 peacekeepers to 54 United Nations peacekeeping missions, as the highest number of women police officers to those operations.
Her Government had created a strong legal and regulatory regime for countering terrorism, she said, adding that, in order to uphold the rule of law and end impunity, crimes committed during the 1971 "liberation war" were being brought to trial. The Bangladeshi economy had grown during the last five years, and several infrastructure and connectivity projects were being brought to fruition. Eighteen “economic zones” were being established across the country for potential investors. With a young workforce, skills development of its population remained a policy imperative for Bangladesh. By making use of contemporary communication technology, the country was reaching both rural and urban people with crucial public services.
Hasina to sit with 14-party leaders
Leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this evening, two days after the 10th parliamentary elections.
The meeting will be held at Gono Bhaban, official residence of the prime minister, at 6:00pm, said Rashed Khan Menon, president of Workers Party of Bangladesh, an ally of AL.
Candidates belonging to the 14-party alliance won 11 seats with AL securing 232 seats in the election.
It will be the first formal meeting of the 14-party alliance leaders with the PM after the election, Menon said.
The meeting will discuss the current political situation of the country, he added.

Hasina expressed that China's development is the benchmark of Asia and has become an example for Bangladesh to seek development and change the backward condition. Bangladesh stands ready to jointly celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relationship with China and eagerly looks forward to visits of Chinese leaders to Bangladesh. Bangladesh spoke highly of a series of practical cooperation initiatives proposed by Minister Wang Yi during this visit, hoping that China will import more Bangladeshi goods, increase investment in Bangladesh, and help Bangladesh develop industrial parks and construct infrastructure. Bangladesh is willing to actively participate in the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor so as to promote cooperation between South Asia and East Asia and push forward its own development.
